Access Disability Equality Training

Equality 2000 have a Social Economy Business delivering Disability Equality training for businesses and organisations on how they can meet the legal requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act and SENDO. Through the business we are assisting people in understanding the law as well as bringing out the human side of adhering to it. As our trainers are Disabled people you will benefit from first hand expertise on many of the access barriers and solutions.
Background:
Under the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, (DDA), if you provide goods, facilities or services to the general public- whether paid for or free-of-charge you are a service provider and you have responsibilities under the Act. New Duties which came into force in January 2007 require public authorities, when carrying out their functions to have due regard to the need to;
Promote positive attitudes towards disabled people and encourage participation by disabled people in public life and consequently to produce disability action plans detailing how they are going to meet these obligations.
What we can deliver:
We tailor our sessions to meet the needs of our client group and can offer training & support in the following areas:
- Implementing the Disability Discrimination Act and/or SENDO
- Equality Awareness
- Making information Accessible
- Advisory service
- Communication tactics
- Access Audits
- Use of Assistive Technology
- A Braille and tape transcription service
With the emergence of legislation to protect disabled people against discrimination when using goods, facilities and services, buying or renting property, accessing education, training and employment, it is no longer acceptable or legal for companies or service providers to deny anyone equal access on the grounds of his or her disability. And now it is possible for those who believe they have been discriminated against to seek redress through the courts.
Equality Means Business
Around 15% of the UK population over the age of 16 have a disability (8.6 million people) and in Northern Ireland this figure rises to 21%, that's 1 in 5 of the population. Are they customers/clients you're missing out on because your premises are inaccessible? Are they excluded from the service you offer? Is the information you provide reaching everyone it could? Are your employees attitudes/language creating an unnecessary barrier? Embrace change and reap the benefits!
