It costs in the region of £37,000.00 to train and care for a Guide Dog for life and to support the working partnership with its owner. There are around 5,000 working Guide Dog partnerships in the UK, approximately 100 of these in Northern Ireland. You don’t have to be a mathematician to work out that that amounts to a lot of cash to be found each year by the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association. Add to this the startling fact that the Association receives no Government funding but must survive on charitable donations alone and you will see why every penny counts.
